If you care about animals and want to protect them from cruelty, you've come to the right place! The Humane League is a 501(c)3 animal advocacy organization that works to protect all animals through public education, campaigns and rescue. We have staffed offices serving the greater metro regions of Philadelphia, Boston, Maryland, New York City, and Dallas, and our work for animals extends nationwide. Funding comes from our over 6,000 members and supporters.

Since our founding in 2005, our mission has been to save the lives of as many animals as possible and to reduce as much animal cruelty as we can. We want a world where people, companies and legislators are making choices that help and not hurt animals, a world in which all animals are treated with the same respect and compassion that we show to our beloved family dog or cat. We invest our time, money and energy where they will do the most good for the greatest number of animals. As a result, our primary focus is on farmed animal issues. Farmed animals represent over 98% of the animals used and killed in the United States, and because they are excluded from state anti-cruelty laws they suffer intensely on today's "factory farms."

The Humane League is Certified Best In America by the Independent Charities of America, a designation reserved for the top 5% of non-profits nationwide based on the ICA's rigorous standards of financial efficiency. Effective Animal Activism, an independent group that evaluates the efficacy of animal protection organizations, has named The Humane League as one of the two top animal charities in the country, and encourages people to donate to us in order to have the largest impact for animals: "Our research suggests that these organizations [The Humane League and Vegan Outreach] prevent the largest amount of suffering for farm animals per dollar donated."

Recognizing the importance of environmental conservation both for its own sake and to protect animals, we are also Green Office Certified, using recycled materials for our printing and office supply needs, purchasing 100% wind power for our office, offsetting all carbon emissions and taking other steps to minimize our impact.
