Baltimore VegFest is a celebration of healthy, sustainable, and compassionate eating and explores the endless benefits of vegetarian living. This FREE event will feature all kinds of vegetarian foods, live music, local veg restaurants, speakers, nutritional experts, vegan cooking demonstrations, a kids area, free prizes, gift bags and more! UMBC Vegetarians and The Humane League are thrilled to be bringing an even bigger and better event this year to UMBC Campus. We hope to see you there!

Speaker: Paul Shapiro, Vice President of Farm Animal Protection for The Humane Society of the United States

Paul Shapiro is the vice president of farm animal protection at The Humane Society of the United States and the founder of Compassion Over Killing. He's been interviewed in hundreds of broadcast media and published dozens of papers on animal protection, from mainstream newspapers to academic journals. He's widely recognized as an expert in farm animal advocacy.

Speaker: Victoria Moran, Author of Main Street Vegan

Victoria is the author of eleven books including the bestselling Creating a Charmed Life, The Love-Powered Diet, and her latest, Main Street Vegan: Everything You Need to Know to Eat Healthfully and Live Compassionately in the Real World, has been praised by Bill Clinton, Michael Moore, Russell Simmons, Moby, Dr. Neal Barnard, and Rory Freedman. VegNews calls it "the vegan Bible."

An inspirational speaker, two-time Oprah guest, host of the Main Street Vegan Show on Unity.FM, and a certified holistic health counselor (CHHC, AADP), Victoria is also the founder and director of Main Street Vegan Academy, a 6-day intensive in NYC to train and certify vegan lifestyle coaches.

Cupcake Demonstration: Doron Petersan of Sticky Fingers and winner of Cupcake Wars

Doron Petersan is the founder and owner of Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats, DC's first all vegan bakery cafe. After opening their doors in 2002, they have attracted much media attention with the most prominent being two time winners of the Food Network's Cupcake Wars, beating out other traditional bakers with their better than the rest vegan baking. Not just cupcakes, the shop makes cookies, cakes, cookie sandwiches, muffins and donuts. Don't forget their 'trifecta; sticky buns, little devils, and cowvin cookies'.

In 2008 Sticky Fingers packaged their best sellers and now have a line of items for sale in the Mid-Atlantic region of Whole Foods as well as Roots Market and MOM's. Back in the shop the menu includes animal free savories like black bean quesadillas, award winning 'tempeh bacon, lettuce, and tomato' sandwiches, loaded veggie burgers, soups, salads, and more. When Doron isn't dreaming up things to eat, she enjoys biking with the shop sponsored 'Team Sticky Fingers' a women's cycling team, or doing Crossfit to work off those donuts. Husband Peter, son Ezra, and the fur kids, Lucas, Katie, and Morty all keep her days filled with love, cuteness, and balance.

Specialist: Mark Rifkin, Vegan Nutritionist

Mark Rifkin, MS, RD, LDN has been vegan since 1986, and has an MS in Health Education. As a Registered Dietitian in private practice, Mark focuses on whole food plant-based diets to prevent and treat chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure. Using good foods and great flavors, he also specializes in helping clients optimize their plant-based, vegetarian or vegan lifestyles

Yoga Instructor: Michele Bickley

Michelle is a yogini on a mission to make yoga accessible. She created the Yoga for the Classroom DVD, positively reviewed by Yoga Journal. In 2002, Michele co-founded Muv Dance and Yoga, an innovative arts organization that brought Yoga and Dance to hundreds of LA public schools, creating spaces for children to shine. She currently lives in Ellicott City, Merry-land where she is a local community activist, writer, yoga teacher at GoGo Guru. Michele experiences daily inspiration from her two sparkling children and her musician husband, Colamiles.

Michelle will be instructing yoga sessons all day long at our Yoga Village!

Yoga Instructor: Jeff Arenberg

After years of practice, graduation from college and yoga teacher trainings, Jeff found the opportunity to infuse yoga with traditional psychiatric counseling. Jeff has been recognized for the measures of success experienced at such institutions as Johns Hopkins Hospital, Kennedy Krieger Institute, Union Memorial Hospital and many more. These results became the inspiration for Jeff's expansion to schools, businesses and individuals around the world who are interested in exploring the profound comprehensive system of Yoga.
